Job summary

Shelter House is seeking a Hypothermia Coordinator to support the operation of the seasonal hypothermia program at Fort Belvoir, VA. The role runs Mon-Fri, 4pm-12am, November through April, and involves setting up the program space, transporting participants with Shelter House vehicle, participant orientations, meals, shower scheduling, and tracking participant information.

The Hypothermia Coordinator will work under the Kennedy Shelter department, report to the Assistant Director of Operations,

Qualifications

• Ability to work in a fast-paced shelter environment.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to safety, confidentiality, and trauma-informed care.

Responsibilities

• Monitor participant safety and conduct walkthroughs.
• Enforce shelter guidelines and respond to conflicts using de-escalation.
• Report incidents while maintaining participant dignity and confidentiality.
• Complete participant intakes, orientations, and required paperwork.
• Explain shelter guidelines, schedules, and available services.
• Distribute supplies and connect participants with case management.
