Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a dock associate to transport freight across the dock area to be loaded onto trailers. You will operate forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck, verify documents, and secure freight for transit.

The role requires basic math, good communication and teamwork, and the ability to lift heavy items regularly. Work is in a dock environment with varied weather and shift times can vary.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Prior warehousing, freight handling or forklift experience preferred.
• If hostler/yard mule duties required, experience preferred.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight, pallets, and dock plates as listed in duties.
• Ability to bend, twist, squat, and push/pull freight throughout shift.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Previous dock/warehouse experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Transport freight across dock area to/from trailers for loading.
• Operate forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck as needed.
• Verify documentation matches freight description (type, weight, hazmat).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, or rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Complete required documentation and reports accurately.
• Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed.
• Perform hostling duties if required.
• Adhere to laws, regulations and company policies.
• Carry out other duties as required.
