Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a dock/warehouse associate to transport freight between dock areas and trailers, and to perform freight handling with equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks and hand trucks. Accurate documentation and safe sealing of loads are essential functions.

The role requires basic math, good communication, and the ability to lift heavy items; working in a fast-paced dock environment with varying hours. Prior warehousing experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Prior experience in warehousing, freight handling and/or forklift operations preferred.
• If hostler/yard mule duties required, experience preferred.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times a week, dock plates ~100 lbs, trailer doors ~75 lbs.
• Ability to bend, twist, squat, push/pull freight throughout shift.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Transport freight across dock area to/from trailers for loading to trailers.
• Perform freight handling using forklift, pallet jack and hand truck.
• Verify documentation matches freight description (type, weight, hazmat) in system.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps or rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed.
• Perform hostling duties if required.
• Comply with laws, regulations and company policies.
