Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Staff Technical Writer, Service Engineering in Plymouth, MI to own technical content strategy for service networks. You will author and govern repair procedures, service bulletins, labor standards, and diagrams, coordinating with Diagnostics, Quality, and Design teams.

You will guide a team of writers, drive consistency across programs, and work with AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency and content quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in Technical Communications, Engineering, Automotive Technology, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in technical writing, service documentation, or technical publications within automotive or complex mechanical/electrical industries.
• Translate complex engineering information into clear, actionable technical content for skilled trades.
• Experience developing and setting standards for service manuals, labor time standards, or parts catalogs.
• Comfort reviewing CAD models, drawings, and BOMs to support procedure development and identify serviceability issues.
• Strong project management skills with ability to manage concurrent deliverables against deadlines.
• Excellent written communication, accuracy, and ability to convey trade-offs to varied stakeholders.
• Ability to build relationships across matrixed teams and mentor other writers.
• Ability to stand/sit/walk 8-10 hours; communicate via phone/email.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical content strategy for vehicle systems and programs, authoring and maintaining service procedures.
• Lead publication of technical service bulletins, field actions, campaigns, and recall documentation across teams.
• Own labor time standards and labor code entries, validating steps and time studies with the Service Lab team.
• Define consistent naming conventions and classifications for service parts, procedures, and labor operations.
• Collaborate with Technical Illustration to scope graphics and diagrams, setting visual standards for complex procedures.
• Manage the most complex documentation assignments across programs, tracking progress in Jira and coordinating change milestones.
• Synthesize field feedback and usage data to identify content gaps and drive proactive revisions.
• Champion standards, structured content, and AI-enabled tools to improve authoring speed and quality.
• Mentor writers on CAD review, labor studies, and authoring methods to raise the technical bar.
• Represent Service Documentation in design/change reviews, advising on downstream documentation impact.
