Job summary

WSP in the U.S. seeks an ESSP Electrical Engineer – Experience Professional for our Freeport, ME office, with consideration for Syracuse, NY and other listed sites.

You will engage in electrical studies, SCADA, and protection tasks within a growing ESSP team on power delivery projects. The role requires a BSEE or equivalent, 3–5 years of design/configuration experience, and an Engineer in Training certification.

Qualifications

• Requires a BSEE or equivalent and Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
• 3–5 years of design or device configuration experience in electrical disciplines.
• Knowledge of electrical engineering principles and permitting-related work.
• Strong analytical and communication skills for collaboration with engineering and non‑engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Protective Relaying: short circuit analysis, coordination, relay settings, and integration with SCADA; software: SEL, ETAP, SKM.
• Power System Planning Studies: load flow, contingency analysis, voltage stability, and Python scripting.
• Design Studies: grounding, insulation coordination, transient simulation, and power quality.
• Networking and Communications: design of RTU/relay networks, communication protocols (DNP, Modbus, IEC 61850) and field deployment.
• Logic and Control Systems: develop control logic for remote/local operation of power equipment; field testing and commissioning.
• Prepare technical reports detailing analyses, findings, and recommendations with sketches and calculations.
• Assist with risk assessment, design concepts, construction and remediation activities.
• Assist with work plan preparation and field/site coordination; complete assigned training.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by project needs; adhere to safety policies.
