Job summary

WSP is seeking an ESSP Electrical Engineer – Experience Professional for our Freeport, ME office, with consideration also given to candidates in Ann Arbor, MI; Syracuse, NY; Orlando, FL; and Fort Mill, SC. The role supports the ESSP team across protection, SCADA, and planning studies, with travel to project sites as needed.

The candidate should have 3–5 years of design or configuration experience, an EIT credential, and a strong foundation in three-phase power and power system fundamentals.

Qualifications

  • BSEE (ABET-accredited) or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years of design or device configuration experience in electrical disciplines.
  • Engineer-in-Training certification.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles and permitting.
  • Analytical mindset with sound judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-leadership with attention to detail and multi-tasking.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Proficiency with technical writing and common software/tools.
  • Commitment to safety and company policies.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform protective relaying analysis, relay settings calculations, and SCADA integration.
  • Conduct power system planning studies including power flow and stability analyses.
  • Develop design studies for grounding, insulation coordination, and EMI/EMF considerations.
  • Configure RTU networks and communication paths; support field commissioning.
  • Write technical reports summarizing analyses with findings and conclusions.
  • Assist with risk assessment, design concepts, and project coordination.
  • Coordinate field/site work and permitting; complete required training.
  • Travel to project sites as needed; support diverse project needs.
  • Uphold safety, ethics, and company policies.
