Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Fire & Life Safety Engineer specializing in Energy Storage Systems (ESS) to lead ESS design for data center projects across the U.S. and internationally.

You will work with the Fire and Life Safety team, coordinate with MEP engineers, and respond to client and AHJ reviews while ensuring code compliance and hazard mitigation. Qualifications

• Related Bachelor’s in Electrical, Mechanical, Architectural, or Fire Protection Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 1–3 years of fire protection and life safety experience; ESS experience preferred.
• Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
• Proficient communication and writing for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Direct and execute the design of building MEP systems for ESS including fire sprinkler, smoke detection, ventilation, and explosion control.
• Apply knowledge of NFPA 855, UL9540/9540A, UL1778, UL924, IFC, FM Global requirements for ESS.
• Author reports and prepare documentation for permits and safety analyses.
• Facilitate Hazard Mitigation Analyses as required by code or client.
• Coordinate with vendors, engineers, and architects; review drawings and implement design changes.
• Support staffing/resource decisions and project communication with clients and authorities.
