Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Fire & Life Safety Engineer specializing in Fire Protection of Energy Storage Systems for multiple U.S. offices, including Herndon, VA. You will lead ESS designs and coordinate with MEP teams and clients on code compliance and hazard mitigation for mission-critical data center projects.

The role involves research, design development, site surveys, and communication with authorities having jurisdiction. Travel may be required, and a PE license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in relevant engineering field or equivalent experience.
• 1-3 years of fire protection and life safety experience; ESS preferred.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for engineers and non-engineers.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Direct and execute the design of the building MEP systems required for the installation of ESS, including fire sprinkler and detection systems.
• Apply NFPA 855, UL9540, UL9540A, UL1778, UL924 and related codes and standards.
• Produce reports and supplemental documentation to support permits, including analysis of large-scale fire test data.
• Facilitate Hazard Mitigation Analyses per code or client needs.
• Develop and present fire risk assessments to authorities having jurisdiction.
• Coordinate with vendors, engineers and architects on design modifications.
• Assist with staffing allocations and project resourcing.
• Promote firm values and drive innovation in the discipline.
