Job summary

VEG is seeking a Veterinary Nursing Shift Lead to coordinate and support fast-paced ER shifts at our Tampa location. You will ensure top-tier patient care while empowering VEGgies to perform at their best, coordinating breaks, rounds, and on-the-floor coaching.

The role emphasizes leadership, compassion, and the ability to manage emergencies with empathy, effective communication, and a strong ownership mindset. Night, weekend, and holiday coverage may be required.

Qualifications

• Credentialed veterinary technician status or enrolled in VEG program preferred.
• 1+ years of experience in a veterinary technician or assistant role; ER or specialty experience preferred.
• Strong grasp of clinical workflow, team dynamics, and empathy.

Responsibilities

• Maintain clear pulse on patient status, team bandwidth, and shift-wide needs.
• Manage daily workflow and pivot as needed during emergencies.
• Assign and adapt shift roles with clarity and care.
• Step in on the floor to support the team and ensure smooth operations.
• Coordinate breaks, resolve conflicts, and model calm under pressure.
• Lead shift transitions, huddles, and end-of-day wrap-ups.
• Communicate clearly and elevate key issues to leadership.
• Turn downtime into learning moments and opportunities for growth.
• Flag incidents with transparency and a growth mindset.
• Collaborate with hospital leadership on coverage and ongoing coaching.
