Job summary

VEG ER for Pets in Cary, NC is seeking a part-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced team. You’ll support triage, patient care, and learning opportunities from day one, with paths to credentialed technician roles through guided training.

You’ll work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating schedule, handle treatments, anesthesia prep, IV fluids, and work alongside veterinarians and technicians.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients; guide to care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics from bloodwork to imaging.
• Set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation with credentialed staff.
• Manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Support during outpatient or inpatient care; from exam to treatment area.
• Join patient rounds and ensure continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER Certified Rescuer training (training provided)
• Grow into advanced responsibilities such as anesthesia support and ultrasound.
• Comply with state law.
