Job summary

The University of Texas Medical Branch in League City, TX is seeking an Emergency Department support professional in a Day Shift role. The position focuses on providing intermediate technical assistance and patient care under supervision within UTMB Health's Emergency Department.

Ideal candidates will have EMT or nursing program involvement, active EMS certification, or recognized military medic training, plus ER Tech training within six months.

Qualifications

• Completion of one of the following technical programs and one (1) year of related experience.
• EMT program or enrollment in recognized School of Nursing with first semester clinical concepts/health assessments.
• Active state EMS certification in good standing at hire date.
• Recognized military medic training (US Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard).
• Completion of ER Tech CBO Tool within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Collects, reports and documents data including vital signs, height/weight, intake/output, pulse oximetry, and specimens.
• Performs Point of Care Testing and reports results.
• Assists with patient activities and care as directed by charge nurse or designee.
• Provides for patients' hygiene and basic care including bathing, oral suctioning, wound care and catheter care.
• Assists with patient feeding and mobility; positions and turns patients as needed.
• Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
• Supports healthcare team by preparing patients and assisting during examinations/procedures.
• Maintains patient privacy and safety; follows infection control measures.
• Cares for patients from correctional environments; maintains clean and safe environment.
• Communicates clearly with nurses and multidisciplinary team; reports equipment status.
