Job summary

UTMB Health in Galveston, TX seeks an ER Technician I to provide intermediate technical assistance and supportive patient care in the Emergency Department. The role includes vitals collection, specimen handling, and assisting the healthcare team in exams, procedures, and patient transfers.

Requires completion of an EMT program or nursing studies, EMS certification, or equivalent military medic training, plus BLS (AHA).

Qualifications

Completion of EMT program with at least 1 year related experience or enrollment in nursing school with clinical concepts.
Active state EMS certification in good standing at the date of hire.
Military training as a US Army medic, US Navy Corpsman, US Air Force Medic, or US Coast Guard Corpsman.
Completion of ER Tech CBO Tool within 6 months of employment.
BLS from American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

Collect, report, and document vital signs, height/weight, intake/output, and specimens.
Perform and report Point of Care Testing.
Assist with patient activities and care per plan of care.
Provide for personal hygiene and support with feeding and mobility.
Assist with admissions, transfers, discharges and procedures.
Maintain patient safety, privacy, and confidentiality.
Prepare patients for examinations and assist with treatments.
Maintain a clean, safe environment and follow infection control measures.
Communicate clearly with nurses and multidisciplinary staff.
Assist with area labs, equipment checks, and supply management.
