Job summary

UTMB Health in Galveston is seeking an ER Technician I for a part-time schedule (7P–7A, 24 hours per week). Candidates must have an EMT program completion or be enrolled in nursing education with clinical concepts, or hold an EMS certification, or military medic training.

BLS certification is required. The role provides intermediate technical assistance and patient care in the ED, including vital signs, specimen collection, file documentation, and assisting with procedures and admissions.

Qualifications

• Completion of EMT program or enrollment in nursing program with first semester clinical concepts
• Active state EMS certification in good standing at date of hire
• BLS from American Heart Association
• Military medic training recognized by branch (US Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard)

Responsibilities

• Collects, reports and documents vital signs, height, weight, intake/output, pulse oximetry, and collects specimens.
• Performs and reports Point of Care Testing.
• Assists with patient activities and care as directed by charge nurse or designee.
• Ensures patient hygiene, including bathing, oral suctioning, wound care, elimination assistance, catheter and ostomy care.
• Assists with feeding and ambulation, positioning, and turning of patients.
• Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
• Chaperones and assists with examinations and procedures.
• Maintains patient safety, privacy, and confidentiality; follows infection control procedures.
• Sets up and maintains a clean, safe environment; notifies for missing/broken equipment.
• Communicates clearly with Nurse Clinicians, Charge Nurses, and the healthcare team.
• Supports quality improvement activities and demonstrates productivity.
