Job summary

UTMB Health in Texas is seeking an Emergency Department Tech to provide intermediate technical assistance and supportive patient care across ED areas. You will take vitals, perform tests, assist with activities of daily living, and help with admissions, transfers, discharges, and procedures.

The role requires EMT training or nursing program enrollment with clinical concepts, plus a current state EMS certification or equivalent military medic training.

Qualifications

• Completion of EMT program or enrollment in nursing program with first semester clinicals
• Active state EMS certification in good standing at hire
• Recognized military training as medic (US Army/US Navy/US Air Force/Coast Guard)

Responsibilities

• Take vitals, height/weight, intake/output, pulse oximetry and collect specimens.
• Perform and report Point of Care Testing.
• Assist with patient activities and care per plan of care.
• Provide hygiene assistance, including bathing, oral suctioning, wound care and continence care.
• Assist with patient feeding and mobility; position and turn patients as needed.
• Assist with admission, transfer and discharge processes.
• Chaperone during examinations and assist with treatments.
• Maintain patient safety and privacy; monitor equipment and isolation procedures.
• Support care in correctional environments and coordinate with healthcare team.
• Maintain clean, safe environment and assist with infection control measures.
• Communicate clearly with nurses, charge nurses and multidisciplinary team.
• Notify staff if equipment is missing or broken; follow up with supervisors.
• Maintain supply levels in patient care areas and assist with other hospital services.
• Set up labor/delivery tables for ED deliveries and assist with minor procedures.
• Participate in quality improvement activities and cost containment.
