Job summary

UTMB Health in League City, TX, is seeking an Emergency Department Technician to provide intermediate technical assistance and supportive patient care across assigned ED areas. You will collect vital signs, specimens, perform Point of Care Testing, and assist with activities, hygiene, feeding, mobility, admissions, discharges, and exams while upholding safety and privacy standards.

You must complete EMT training or be in nursing school with clinical coursework, hold or obtain EMS certification,

Qualifications

• Completion of EMT program with 1 year related experience.
• Enrollment in recognized School of Nursing with first semester clinical concepts.
• Active state EMS certification in good standing at date of hire.
• Recognized military training as a US Army medic, US Navy Corpsmen, US Air Force Medic, or US Coast Guard Corpsmen.
• Complete ER Tech CBO Tool within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Collects, reports and documents data. Takes vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, pulse oximetry, and collects specimens.
• Performs and reports Point of Care Testing.
• Assists with patient activities and care as assigned by the charge nurse/designee as indicated by the patient’s plan of care.
• Provides personal hygiene for patients: baths, oral suctioning, wound care, elimination support, incontinent care, catheter/ostomy care.
• Assists with patient feeding and mobility, including ambulation and turning.
• Assists with admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
• Prepares patients and chaperones during examinations/procedures and assists with treatments.
• Maintains patient safety, privacy, and proper isolation and infection control measures.
• Communicates with Nurse Clinicians and multidisciplinary team; notifies staff of missing/broken equipment.
• Maintains patient care areas with supplies and supports quality improvement efforts.
