Job summary

UTMB Health in Galveston, TX seeks an Emergency Department support professional to provide intermediate technical assistance and patient care across assigned areas. You will work under the charge nurse/designee, performing vital checks, data collection, and assisting with procedures as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The role involves patient hygiene, mobility support, admissions/discharges, and maintaining patient safety and privacy in a fast-paced ED environment.

Qualifications

• Completion of EMT program or enrollment in nursing program with first semester of clinicals
• Active state EMS certification in good standing at hire date
• Recognized military training as US Army medic, US Navy Corpsman, US Air Force Medic, or US Coast Guard Corpsman

Responsibilities

• Collect data and vital signs; document intake, output, height/weight, pulse oximetry, and specimens.
• Perform and report Point of Care Testing.
• Assist with patient activities and care as directed by the charge nurse or designee.
• Provide for patients’ personal hygiene and comfort, including bathes, suctioning, wound care, elimination, ostomy care, and hydration assistance.
• Assist with patient feeding and mobility; reposition and ambulate patients.
• Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
• Support the healthcare team during examinations/procedures and other treatments.
• Maintain patient safety and privacy; manage restraints and precautions.
• Prepare patients and assist with hospital services as requested; maintain clean and safe environments.
• Set up Labor & Delivery tables and assist with minor procedures and area-specific diagnostics.
• Participate in quality improvement activities and uphold productivity and cost containment.
