Job summary

UTMB Health in Galveston, TX seeks an Emergency Department Tech to provide intermediate technical assistance and supportive patient care across assigned areas under the charge nurse. You will gather vital signs, assist with activities, and help with procedures to support timely patient care.

Responsibilities include infection control, patient safety, privacy, and collaboration with nurses and the multidisciplinary team to deliver compassionate, efficient ED services in a busy hospital setting.

Qualifications

• EMT program completed or nursing school with first semester completed.
• Active state EMS certification in good standing.
• Military medic training recognized.
• Completion of ER Tech CBO Tool within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Collects, reports and documents data including vital signs and intake/output.
• Performs and reports Point of Care Testing.
• Assists with patient activities and care as directed by the charge nurse.
• Maintains patient hygiene and safety, including mobility assistance.
• Assists with feeding, admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Prepares patients for examinations and supports procedures.
• Ensures privacy and confidentiality, maintains a clean environment.
• Adheres to infection control and aseptic techniques.
• Communicates with Nurse Clinicians and multidisciplinary team.
• Notifies staff about equipment issues and follows up with appropriate managers.
• Maintains supplies in patient care areas and supports patient requests.
• Sets up for Labor & Delivery and minor procedures as needed.
• Participates in quality improvement activities.
