Job summary

Alexandria City Public Schools seeks a Mental Health Specialist to lead MTSS-based mental health and SEL initiatives across the division. The role provides targeted professional development, oversees assessments, and collaborates with community partners to support diverse student needs.

The position is 12-month, 240-day licensed, reporting to the Executive Director of Equity and Title IX, and is housed in the Central Office in Alexandria, VA.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work required.
• MTSS knowledge with PBIS/restorative practices preferred; data-informed decision making.
• Experience supporting school mental health and wellness in educational settings.

Responsibilities

• Oversee teletherapy program and coordinate access to virtual mental health supports.
• Provide individualized behavioral support for Tier 3 challenges using restorative practices.
• Lead division-wide implementation of bills related to student mental health and well-being.
• Support tiered SEL curricula and interventions with an equity lens.
• Maintain a repository of evidence-based SEL resources and assess program effectiveness.
• Collaborate with community agencies to expand resources for diverse student needs.
