Job summary

Fuss & O’Neill is seeking an Environmental Permitting Lead in Hartford, CT to guide permitting work for water and natural resources projects. You’ll lead permitting strategies, agency coordination, and submissions while managing multiple projects with diverse stakeholders.

You will mentor junior staff, coordinate with engineers and scientists, and ensure regulatory compliance across MEPA, Wetlands, and federal/state requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience managing environmental permit submissions.
• Experience with Massachusetts environmental permitting and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience managing permitting for ecological restoration, infrastructure repairs, bridges, culverts, dams, or redevelopment.
• Strong project management and leadership skills with multi-project capability.
• Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead Massachusetts natural resources permitting activities and act as project management resource for strategy, applications, and coordination.
• Oversee review, preparation, and submission of environmental permit applications for varied projects.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies, municipalities, clients, and stakeholders to support timely permit approvals.
• Develop permitting strategies and educate project teams on regulatory requirements and impacts on schedules.
• Develop and oversee budgets and schedules for permitting and natural resources work.
• Coordinate wetland delineations, field studies, and investigations to support permitting and compliance.
• Mentor early-career professionals in permitting, regulatory requirements, and project management.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate natural resources considerations into planning and design.
