Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Entry-Level Substation Structural Engineer to join our team in Duluth, GA, with consideration for Baton Rouge, LA, Oradell, NJ, and other locations. You will assist in analysis, design, and delivery of structural solutions for substations, including steel structures and foundations.

You’ll work under supervision performing calculations, drawings, and coordination with multiple disciplines, while growing your technical skills and contributing to project success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• 0–1 year of post-education experience.
• Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
• Familiarity with design/build concepts.
• Familiarity with structural/civil construction laws and codes.
• Strong communication to engineers and non-engineers.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.
• Proficiency with technical writing and common software/tools.
• Familiarity with design software: RISA3D, RISA Foundation, LPile, MathCad, MicroStation, AutoCAD, STADD.
• Safety-conscious and policy-aware.
• Occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, perform structural engineering work for substation projects, including steel structures and foundations.
• Prepare detailed calculations, load development, and design criteria per standards.
• Create engineering drawing markups aligned with calculations.
• Assist with construction specs, cost estimates, and project schedules.
• Coordinate with electrical, civil, geotechnical, and construction teams.
• Use structural analysis/finite element tools to size systems.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews of deliverables before submission.
• Support reporting and coordination with project leads.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Adhere to WSP Code of Conduct and policies.
