WSP USA is seeking an Entry Level Substation Structural Engineer for our Duluth, GA office. You will support the design, analysis, and delivery of structural engineering solutions for substations, including steel structures, foundations, and rigid bus supports.

The role emphasizes developing calculations, drawings, specs, and coordination with electrical and civil teams, with on-the-job training and compliance with safety standards. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with design/build concepts.
  • Knowledge of structural and civil codes and record-keeping requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Self-leadership with attention to detail and multi-tasking in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently under supervision and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office software, and common tools.
  • Familiarity with design software: RISA3D, RISA Foundation, LPile, MathCad, MicroStation, AutoCAD, STADD.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to policies.
  • Ability to travel as required.

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, support structural engineering work for substation projects.
  • Prepare detailed structural calculations, design criteria, load development and calculation packages.
  • Create engineering drawing markups aligned with design calculations.
  • Assist with construction specifications, cost estimates, and schedules.
  • Provide cross-disciplinary coordination with electrical, civil, geotechnical, and construction teams.
  • Use structural analysis and finite element tools to size systems and foundations.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of structural deliverables before submission.
  • Support reporting and technical coordination for project leads.
