Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to improve academic success and attendance, working with teachers on classroom instruction and student support. Training is provided at the start of the year, with ongoing collaboration among staff and partner teachers.

Position is entry-level, paid, full-time, and includes benefits typical of City Year AmeriCorps programs as you help students thrive and grow within school communities.

Qualifications

• Must be 17–25 by July 1, 2025.
• GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (Authorization to work in the U.S. is not sufficient). Those with DACA status are not eligible at this time.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (specific start date varies by location).

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor elementary, middle and/or high school students to support academic success and attendance.
• Plan and monitor individual student progress and work with teachers on in-class instruction and student assistance.
• Assist with whole school initiatives to increase engagement with students and families.
• Support 1:1 and small group work to develop literacy and math skills.
• Create an engaging, safe classroom space in collaboration with the teacher.
