Job summary

ECS Group of Companies is seeking a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Field Technician to join our Columbia, SC team. No prior experience is required as you’ll learn under the guidance of experienced professionals while gaining hands-on field testing skills.

You'll conduct observation, testing, and sampling of soils, aggregates, and concrete, and participate in training for OSHA 10, ACI, ASNT, ICC, and NICET certifications.

Qualifications

• No experience required.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 85 pounds.
• Must have valid driver’s license and insurance.
• Willing to develop understanding of CMT principles and ASTM standards; certifications in soils, concrete, and radiation safety.
• OSHA 10 certification may be required.
• Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, writing).
• Ability to work effectively with contractors, peers, and supervisors.

Responsibilities

• Conduct observation, testing, and sampling of materials including soils, aggregates, and concrete on construction materials testing project sites; Execute tasks under guidance of senior technicians and project managers.
• Conduct routine field and/or laboratory tests for soils, aggregates, and concrete using industry-standard methodologies and equipment.
• Perform calculations and data reduction from sampling and test results; assist with calculations, drafting, and administrative duties as requested.
• Maintain daily communication with site contractors, technicians, and project managers; report changes and additional testing needs to supervisor; assist with field equipment organization and maintenance.
• Receive training in ECS methodology for project observations, inspections, and testing; document findings with engineering precision.
