Job summary

Pike Engineering is seeking an early-career electrical engineer to provide protection and control design for utility substations and transmission projects. You will contribute to protection schemes, SCADA design, studies, and field support to ensure safe, cost-effective engineering solutions.

Ideal candidates have ABET‑accredited degrees and up to two years of experience, with strong fundamentals and the ability to work across disciplines and at client sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program or equivalent.
• 0 to 2 years’ experience as a practicing engineer.
• Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.

Responsibilities

• Ability to understand protection and control fundamentals as they apply to utility substation and transmission line equipment
• Ability to design protection schemes for substation and transmission line equipment, including bus, line, capacitor and transformer protection schemes and associated settings
• Ability to understand SCADA communication design
• Develop a basic understanding of protection and control design for utility substation and transmission line equipment facilities through 500kV, including one lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, settings, relays, and SCADA
• Ability to perform studies and create reports for coordination, voltage drop, fault current, and insulation coordination
• Ability to perform calculations and studies using client specified software and standards
• Interpret written specifications and implement them on engineering drawings
• Check designs for accuracy, appearance, and adherence to customer standards
• Collaborate, communicate, and liaise effectively with other design disciplines
• Visit sites, advise on P&C engineering issues, and modify design to solve issues during construction
