Job summary

Pike Engineering is seeking a design-focused Protection & Control Engineer to join a substation engineering team. You will provide technical direction on protection and control for utility substations, battery storage, and solar collector projects.

You will design protection schemes, understand SCADA design, perform coordination and fault studies, interpret specifications, and check drawings for accuracy while collaborating with other disciplines and visiting sites to resolve construction issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent per ABET/NCEES.
• 0–2 years of practicing engineer experience.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Understanding of protection and control theory and practices.

Responsibilities

• Understand protection and control fundamentals as they apply to substation and transmission equipment.
• Design protection schemes for substations and transmission lines (bus, line, capacitor, transformer).
• Understand SCADA communication design and integration.
• Develop familiarity with protection and control design for projects up to 500kV including diagrams and wiring.
• Perform studies and create reports for coordination, fault current, insulation coordination, and voltage drop.
• Carry out calculations using client-specified software and standards.
• Interpret written specifications and implement them on engineering drawings.
• Check designs for accuracy and conformance to customer standards.
• Collaborate with other design disciplines and communicate effectively.
• Visit sites, advise on P&C issues, and modify designs during construction.
