Job summary

Pike Engineering in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking an early-career Engineer to contribute to substation protection and control design, engineering, and technical support across transmission projects, battery storage, and solar substations.

You will help develop protection schemes, understand SCADA integration, and support studies and drawings while collaborating with multiple disciplines and visiting sites to resolve field issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an ABET-accredited engineering program (or equivalent evaluated by NCEES).
• 0 to 2 years’ experience as a practicing engineer.
• Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.

Responsibilities

• Understand protection and control fundamentals as they apply to utility substation and transmission line equipment.
• Design protection schemes for substation and transmission line equipment (bus, line, capacitor, transformer) and settings.
• Understand SCADA communication design and integration.
• Develop basic understanding of protection and control design for 500kV facilities (drawings, schematics, wiring).
• Perform studies and create reports for coordination, voltage drop, fault current, and insulation coordination.
• Interpret specifications and implement them on engineering drawings; check designs for accuracy and adherence to standards.
• Collaborate with other design disciplines and liaise effectively; visit sites and address issues during construction.
