Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Fire & Life Safety Engineer specializing in Energy Storage Systems (ESS) fire protection for multiple offices across the U.S., including Troy, NY; Milwaukee, WI; New York City, NY; Phoenix, AZ; Atlanta, GA; Herndon, VA; Dallas, TX; and Houston, TX.

You will lead ESS design to meet NFPA 855, UL9540/9540A, UL1778, UL924 and related codes, coordinating with the FLS team and other engineers on data center projects domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

• Requires related Bachelor's in Electrical, Mechanical, Architectural, or Fire Protection Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 1-3 years in fire protection and life safety; ESS experience preferred.
• Excellent research and analytical skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication for engineering and non-engineering audiences.

Responsibilities

• Direct and execute ESS building MEP design for fire protection systems (sprinkler, detection, ventilation, explosion control).
• Apply NFPA 855, UL9540/9540A, UL1778, UL924, and International Fire Code knowledge.
• Prepare permit-support documentation and analyze large-scale fire test data.
• Coordinate with vendors, engineers, and architects to implement design changes.
• Support hazard mitigation analyses and risk-based process safety discussions.
• Present fire risk assessments to authorities having jurisdiction.
• Assist with staffing/resource planning and project challenges.
