Job summary

Mortenson is seeking an experienced Controls Manager I or II to join our Energy Storage group. You will provide project execution and design leadership, customer relationship management, and support for early-stage Energy Storage offerings.

The role is remote with nationwide US eligibility and up to 25% travel. Responsibilities include design review, technical support, and coordinating with engineers and trade partners to ensure contract compliance and successful testing and turnover.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field experience.
• Low, medium, and high voltage technical knowledge proficiency.
• Specialized knowledge in electrical DC systems, low voltage AC systems, controls, and substations.
• Current driver’s license.
• Understanding of utility-scale inverter-based designs and control schemes.
• Networking and communications for utility-scale installations.
• SCADA equipment programming and troubleshooting (PLCs, HMIs, switches).
• Knowledge of relevant codes (NESC, NEC, IEEE, NEMA, OSHA).
• Electrical construction management and cost awareness.
• Testing for PPAs, LGIA, and Transmission System Operator requirements.
• Strong teamwork orientation and customer collaboration.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and resolve complex electrical issues.
• Technical consensus-building with internal/external partners.
• Technical risk management.

Responsibilities

• Review design documents to ensure contract compliance and resolve conflicts that affect installation.
• Provide technical electrical support and guidance to project teams and trade partners.
• Review design, commissioning, testing, and turnover requirements.
• Understand PPA and interconnection design, testing and turnover requirements.
• Coordinate plans with engineers and clarify discrepancies.
• Analyze operations and guide troubleshooting of performance issues.
• Provide updates to customers on project performance.
• Clarify what is within Mortenson’s contract scope.
• Simplify complex technical issues for non-technical audiences.
