Job summary

Mortenson Construction is seeking an experienced Project Engineer I in our Energy Storage group to support field coordination across multiple locations in the US. This full-time traveler role requires adaptability, proactive problem-solving, and professional communication with project teams and stakeholders.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in a construction-related field, at least two years of experience, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management
• Two years of related construction experience minimum
• Detail orientation to manage multiple tasks
• Understand construction law and standard business practices
• Strong teamwork, initiative, communication and problem-solving

Responsibilities

• Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft persons
• Implement the pre-construction quality plan
• Obtain and maintain construction permits; manage fee payments and recurring expenses
• Develop and maintain Material Tracking List, Project Test and Inspection Listing, Concrete Placement Log, Non-Conformance Report
• Manage, create, and distribute contract documents
• Establish handling procedures for electronic documents (RFIs, correspondence)
• Incorporate processes and procedures for project closeout phase
• Manage testing and inspection processes for construction quality management
• Implement three-phase inspection system
• Establish reporting formats, protocols, schedules, and off-site testing procedures
• Notify Project Manager and Superintendent of non-conforming test results or inspection items
• Manage submittals: set up register, obtain customer/architect approval, prepare transmittal forms, coordinate packaging, review, and processing
• Expedite submittals to align with project schedule
• Communicate submittal process details to subcontractors and suppliers
• Issue submittal requirement letters
• Provide periodic updates of submittal register to customer or architect
• Coordinate subcontractor details: verify insurance, prepare paperwork, request final payment
• Develop and distribute RFIs and Change Orders
• Define and implement procedures for posting revisions and updates to as-built construction documents
• Incorporate subcontractor as-built documentation into contract document updates
• Mentor, manage, and evaluate field engineers
• Determine alternative work methods as needed
• Coordinate safety and compliance for all team members
• Maintain schedule of timelines and ensure completion
