Job summary

Atelier Ten US in New York seeks a full-time Environmental Designer with a specialty in Energy Analysis to collaborate on projects achieving energy efficiency and carbon reductions. You will produce technical deliverables, run energy simulations, and develop strategies for building systems, leading in decarbonizing the built environment.

You will be part of an interdisciplinary environmental design team, contributing to the Energy Analysis practice in our NYC office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Building Science, Sustainable Building Design.
• 2–5 years professional work experience in building energy analysis or high-performance HVAC design at the commercial building scale.
• Experience in specialized building energy simulation software (IES-VE and/or eQuest preferred, EnergyPlus and/or Grasshopper is a plus).
• Ability to develop and articulate engineering problems related to HVAC system design, building envelope performance, passive conditioning strategies, building energy use, and carbon emissions.
• Experience with applying ASHRAE Standards 55, 62.1, 90.1, and 189 to new and/or existing building projects.

Responsibilities

• Learn and follow energy analysis protocols for new and existing building projects.
• Participate in customized training to build critical thinking and deliver analyses for projects and clients.
• Develop shoe-box and whole building energy models to support energy analyses for design and optioneering.
• Evaluate envelope performance, massing, and mechanical system optioneering across climate zones.
• Identify and analyze net-zero energy and carbon strategies using various metrics.
• Prepare written summaries and technical reports for clients and stakeholders.
• Coordinate sustainability assessments, energy benchmarking, and life cycle cost analyses.
• Collaborate with architects and design teams to recommend energy and carbon improvements.
