Job summary

Atelier Ten US seeks a full-time Design Staff with a specialty in Energy Analysis to collaborate on projects that improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. You will produce technical deliverables, run whole-building energy models, and develop strategies for HVAC systems while leading the practice within interdisciplinary environmental design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in a field related to Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Building Science, Sustainable Building Design
• 2–5 years professional work experience in building energy analysis or high-performance HVAC design at the commercial building scale
• Experience in specialized building energy simulation software (IES-VE and/or eQuest preferred, EnergyPlus and/or Grasshopper is a plus)
• Ability to develop and articulate engineering problems related to HVAC system design, building envelope performance, passive conditioning strategies, building energy use, and carbon emissions
• Experience with applying ASHRAE Standards 55, 62.1, 90.1, and 189 to new and/or existing building projects
• Experience with Green Building Rating systems (e.g., LEED, WELL, Living Building Challenge) and energy code compliance (i.e. IECC or 90.1) in various design stages
• Experience gathering and documenting energy model inputs and outputs; interpreting results and documenting the analysis in written and graphical format
• Verbal and written fluency in English
• Proficiency in MS Office specifically Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

• Learn internal energy analysis methodologies per ASHRAE 90.1 and other standards for diverse projects
• Develop shoe-box and whole-building energy models to support energy analyses
• Coordinate sustainability assessments, energy benchmarking, and life cycle cost analyses
• Collaborate with architects and design teams to propose energy and carbon improvements
• Assist with energy analysis-related work including carbon calculations and cost analyses
• Attend site visits and project meetings, presenting analyses to stakeholders
• Develop and maintain in-house databases and spreadsheet tools, methods, and standards
