Job summary

Whitley Penn is seeking a seasoned Energy-AC Controller to lead Oil & Gas Upstream accounting engagements in a consultative client-facing role. You will supervise staff, manage complex engagements, and drive process improvements for the Energy Accounting & Consulting team.

You will partner with the Oil & Gas Consulting Partner to develop systems, ensure compliance with GAAP/GAAS, and deliver high-quality client service.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Oil & Gas accounting and analysis experience.
• Public accounting or professional services experience preferred
• Experience with setting up accounting functions/process and implementation acumen
• Experience with Quorum accounting software including OGsql, OnDemand Accounting
• BA or Master’s in accounting
• CPA, CA, CMA or APA preferred
• Knowledge of firm philosophy and financial matters
• Proficiency in technology and accounting programs
• Extensive knowledge of GAAP and GAAS for Oil & Gas upstream/E&P
• Professional appearance and demeanor

Responsibilities

• Develop tools, systems and processes for Oil & Gas Upstream accounting clients
• Serve as liaison between partner, client and staff
• Manage multiple client engagements; oversee client and auditor relationships; monitor engagement economics
• Develop client service plans with the team
• Identify and resolve high-risk situations with QC involvement
• Research technical issues to ensure compliance with rules and standards
• Ensure deliverables meet professional and firm standards
• Lead training and staff development activities
• Communicate progress and resolutions to clients
• Align targets with firm strategy and drive improvements
