Job summary

SCA Health in Fountain Valley, CA is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Endoscopy in the GI Department at a multi-specialty surgery center. You will develop individualized perioperative care plans and provide expert nursing care across the perioperative continuum.

The role emphasizes patient safety, medication administration, aseptic technique, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Candidates should have GI/OR experience and active RN licensure in good standing, with required BLS, ACLS,

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• One year of GI, OR and/or medical/surgical nursing experience preferred.
• Current state nursing licensure in good standing.
• BLS/BCLS certification required within 90 days of employment.
• ACLS certification within 90 days of employment.
• PALS certification required if pediatric care is included in facility scope.
• GI Nursing specialty certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop an individualized perioperative patient plan of care.
• Protect patient from injury and ensure safe operation of equipment.
• Administer medications safely using the 8 rights of medication administration.
• Maintain aseptic technique and infection control.
• Provide education regarding perioperative care and expected responses.
• Assess patient status and monitor while recovering from anesthesia.
• Prepare endoscopy scopes and maintain instruments and supplies.
• Communicate patient status to the care team and document care.
• Transfer care with accurate hand-off reports to teammates.
• Protect patient privacy and comply with all policy requirements.

Responsibilities

We are actively hiring for an Registered Nurse (RN) Endoscopy. GI Department at a multi-specialty surgery center.

• Develop an individualized perioperative patient plan of careby implementing:

• Protecting the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, mechanical, and thermalsources.
• Demonstratingsafe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafesituation.
• Speakingupwith safety concerns acting as the patientsadvocate.
• Handling specimens according to facility policy and procedures.

• Adheringto standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment.
• Complyingwith Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy
• Communicating the patient’s current status to relevant parties throughout the continuum ofcare.
• Administering medications safely and correctly using the 8 rights of medicationadministration.
• Practicingandmonitoringaseptic technique.

• Implementingthe plan of care including the following interventions:

• Managing patient recovery from anesthesia – Moderate sedation and Monitored anesthesia care.

• Assessingpatient status at intervals in accordancewithfacility policies and procedures.
• Providingnursing care and appropriate monitoring in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Performing interventions to maintain the patient’s tissue perfusion at or above baselinelevels.

• Ensuringscopes are prepared for use in accordance with policies and procedures and manufacturer’s instructions for use.
• Maintainingendoscopy instruments and accessories in working order.Troubleshootingandrecognizingmalfunctions.
• Performing interventions to maintain the status of the patient’s genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological systems and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances at or above baselinelevels.
• Performing interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperativeperiod.
• Performing interventions to protect the patient frominfection.

• Assessing the knowledge level of the patient or designated supportperson.
• Providing education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain management, and expected responses totheprocedure.
• Involving the patient or designated support person actively in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitationprocess.
• Protecting the patient’s rights, dignity, andprivacy.
• Providing age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice.

• Evaluate the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes.
• Transfer care as applicable.
• Provide hand-off report to other teammates that are accurate, concise and pertinent to the patient’s condition and response to care.
• Delegate tasks according to the state Nurse Practice Act (if applicable), state board of nursing or professional registration requirements, state laws, and job descriptions.
• Documentepisode of careaccurately, timely, completely, and legibly.

• Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the team and other stakeholders.
• Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning patient care.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of Basic Life Support(BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90of employment or documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification.
• Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification.
• Successful completion ofPediatricAdvance Life support(PALS)course is required whenpediatric care is included in the facility scope of services within90 days of employment or documentation of current PALScertification.
• Specialty certification inGINursing is preferred.
