Job summary

Assist Ambulance, a NYC EMS agency, is seeking EMTs to join our Communications Department as calltaker/dispatcher trainees. You will work with EMTs and medics to coordinate calls 24/7 and learn dispatching under the Director of Communications.

This role offers paid training and a clear path to full dispatcher duties, with emphasis on teamwork, accuracy, and high-stress performance in a demanding urban setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of call-taking or equivalent customer service experience.
• Active NY State EMT card.
• Ability to pass a 10-panel drug screen including THC.
• Excellent customer service and professionalism.
• Proactive communication and teamwork experience.
• Motivation to learn dispatch in a high-stress environment.
• Attention to detail and multitasking.
• Experience with EMR, billing, data entry or insurance portals is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Handle high-volume call-taking for non-emergency and emergency medical transports.
• Coordinate with EMTs, paramedics, supervisors and directors using telemetry, radio, GPS and tracking software.
• Support daily operations by coordinating crews, buses, supplies, and equipment.
• Learn dispatch procedures alongside experienced dispatchers reporting to the Director of Communications.
