Job summary

American Medical Response is hiring a Dispatcher in Washington, DC for a full-time position. You will respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for ambulance and transportation services, allocate EMS resources, and ensure accurate documentation and reporting.

The role requires strong English communication, multitasking, and computer/data-entry skills, with experience in EMS or public safety dispatch preferred. On-site work with standard shift patterns.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimal medical training or telecommunications experience, or at least 1 year as an EMS/public safety dispatcher.
• Ability to read and write English proficiently.
• Capable of clear radio and telephone communication.
• Accurate data entry and record‑keeping skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Fast, accurate typing skills for emergency and non‑emergency calls.
• Basic knowledge of computer applications.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency and non‑emergency calls for ambulance and transportation services.
• Allocate EMS resources using established protocols and decision rules.
• Ensure paperwork is complete and accurate before shift end.
• Enter data accurately, including State Run Report data where applicable.
• Generate and verify reports for shift activities.
• Assist in locating incident scenes and choosing safe, fastest routes.
• Relay instructions from supervisors and update relevant information.
• Maintain knowledge of company policies and procedures.
• Comply with established request formats for service.
