Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking an Instructional Assistant-Special Education to support teachers and students across elementary, middle, or high schools. This on-site role focuses on coordinating instructional programs, monitoring IEPs, and safeguarding confidentiality while delivering a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities include assisting with behavior plans, preparing materials, coordinating transitions, and supporting health and safety needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Six documented semester hours of coursework in early childhood education, OR two years of work experience in an early childhood setting.
• Maintain a CPI certification and renewal per guidelines.
• Experience with or assisting individuals with special needs; familiarity with IEPs and ESSA requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provides support and assistance to teachers in coordinating instructional programs for special education students.
• Assists teachers with strategies related to implementation of students' behavioral intervention plans.
• Aids teachers with planning, organizing, evaluating activities, and preparing materials.
• Demonstrates professional and technical skills to support student achievement.
• Maintains confidentiality and professional conduct at all times.
• Coordinates and facilitates student transitions between classes.
• Assists with health care needs such as personal hygiene and mobility support.
• Provides CPI and behavioral support skills in classroom settings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
