Job summary

The candidate will participate in merchandising, inventory, cash handling, and store operations while maintaining a safe and well-stocked environment.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedures manuals.
• Ability to perform basic math including percentages.
• Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability and deposits.
• Familiarity with IBM cash register functions and reporting.
• Understanding of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Knowledge of cash, safety and facility control policies (deposits, keys, safety programs).
• Experience recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling and termination within legal compliance.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal abilities.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to solve problems with limited standardization; adapt to various situations.
• Some Dollar General locations may prefer bilingual Spanish speakers.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Assist with store merchandising, staging, stocking, and pricing per established practices and manager direction.
• Assist in all aspects of inventory management, including damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork and controls.
• Follow ordering practices to meet in-stock targets.
• Provide customer service leadership.
• Model company procedures and policies.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Ensure safe deposit of company funds and cashier accountability.
• Assist in maintaining clean, well-stocked stores and safe environment.
• Operate store in the store manager's absence.
• Review operating statements for trends, expenses, profits, inventory turns, and shrinkage.
• Complete paperwork and documentation on time.
