Job summary

Abbott Construction is seeking a Project Engineer/Manager in Washington to support preconstruction and execution of commercial construction projects. You will assist in estimates, budgets, and plan reviews, and help coordinate subcontractor activities and change orders.

The role requires a Civil Engineering or Construction Management background with 2+ years in commercial construction, strong communication and planning skills, and the ability to work under minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field; or equivalent.
• Minimum of two or more years of commercial construction experience.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Understands construction laws and codes; reads blueprints.
• Abbott ethics and policies adherence.
• Strong problem solving and teamwork.
• Ability to plan action and allocate resources.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation of estimates, project budgets, and unit cost reports.
• Organizes and conducts pre-construction planning meetings.
• Participates in successful negotiation of project subcontracts.
• Assist project team with project management plan and execution of construction contract.
• Participate in value engineering services as appropriate.
• Obtain and review plans/specs for completeness and consistency.
• Assist owner with permits and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare project schedule and milestones with the Project Superintendent.
• Develop monthly client pay requests and follow up on billings.
• Control payments to subcontractors and coordinate with the cost accountant.
• Participate in monthly job cost reviews to improve profitability.
• Manage procurement within budget and schedule.
• Develop and monitor quality, safety, and risk management plans.
• Negotiate change orders and manage impacts on schedule and cost.
• Attend and support project meetings with Owner/Architect and subcontractors.
