Job summary

Abbott Construction in Washington State seeks a skilled Construction Project Engineer to support estimates, budgets, subcontracts, and planning. You will help ensure successful execution of construction contracts, coordinate with owners and subcontractors, and manage document control and close-out activities.

The role emphasizes budget control, scheduling, procurement, and collaborative problem solving, with opportunities to mentor junior staff and contribute to value engineering.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two or more years of commercial construction experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong negotiation abilities.
  • Understands construction laws, reads blueprints and applies codes correctly.
  • Upholds Abbott Construction ethics and policies.
  • Demonstrates strong problem solving and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Spanish language basics preferred.
  • Strong computer and technical skills; quick learner with new software.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparation of estimates, budgets, and unit cost reports.
  • Organize and conduct pre-construction planning meetings.
  • Participate in negotiation of subcontracts.
  • Assist in creating project management plans and execution strategies.
  • Contribute to value engineering when appropriate.
  • Review plans and specs for completeness and consistency.
  • Assist owner with permits and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare project schedule and milestones with Project Superintendent.
  • Maintain monthly client pay requests and ensure timely collections.
  • Manage payment of job and subcontractor costs and lien releases.
  • Contribute to monthly job cost reviews and profitability.
  • Manage procurement of materials and equipment within budget.
  • Develop and monitor quality, safety, and risk plans.
  • Negotiate change orders and assess impacts on schedule/cost/profit.
  • Attend meetings and coordinate with owners, architects, and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate close-out procedures and documentation submission.
  • Support post-completion review and data collection for Preconstruction.
  • Train and mentor project and field engineers.
