Job summary

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center is hiring an ED Business Associate to support patient admissions in the Emergency Department. You will gather essential patient data, enter it into the EMR, verify insurance, and coordinate with the care team to ensure compliant, timely processing.

Ideal candidates have strong customer service, medical terminology knowledge, and proficiency with MS Office. Bilingual Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years in customer service or related field; healthcare experience preferred.
• Proficient with MS Office and computer systems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Bilingual in Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Arranges for the efficient admission of patients to the Emergency Department per EMTALA and HIPAA compliance.
• Ensures patients are informed of hospital policies, privacy rights, and added to the ED Tracking Board.
• Collects demographic and financial information; creates emergency financial assistance applications when applicable.
• Verifies health insurance benefits using eligibility systems and other sources.
• Ensures patient consents are complete and witnessed per policies; assigns hospital IDs and wristbands.
• Accepts admissions including PESP and Direct Admissions; communicates with translation system as needed.
• Creates patient charts in the ED; directs calls and provides transportation vouchers upon discharge.
• Acts as unit leader when ED management is unavailable; participates in emergency activations as needed.
• Completes charting for HIM retrieval and collaborates with Admissions from other areas.
