Job summary

The City of Sugar Land is hiring a full-time Public Safety Dispatcher - Recruit in our Public Safety Dispatch Department. You will respond to emergencies and non-emergency calls, dispatch Police and Fire, and operate State and national computer systems.

This role requires a high school diploma and prospective certifications. Ideal candidates have 1 year of heavy customer service/dispatching experience (or 4 years of military service) and must obtain TCIC/NCIC within 6 months and TCOLE within 1

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1 year experience in a heavy customer service/dispatching environment or 4 years military service preferred.
• Must be capable of certification by the Texas Department of Public Safety in TCIC/NCIC within 6 months of employment.
• Must be capable of being certified as a Basic Telecommunications Operator by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) within one year.

Responsibilities

• Assist citizens by gathering information using multi-channel phone systems, TDD, and other communications equipment, handling 911 and non-emergency calls for Police, Fire, EMS, and others.
• Provide Police and Fire dispatch through radio communications and prompt relay of information to personnel.
• Verify records and relay information between Police and Fire personnel in the computer system and other records.
• Operate State and Nationwide computer systems (SETCIC, TLETS, NLETS) and retrieve information.
• Maintain records, logs, and filing systems as required by policy or directive.
• Serve as communication link in Emergency Management events such as natural disasters.
• Receive entry-level training in Telecommunications operations and procedures.
• Regular on-site attendance is an essential function of this position.
• Remain an essential employee before, during, and after emergencies.
