Job summary

Brownsville Police Department is seeking an Emergency Communications Operator to provide critical dispatch and communications support. You will answer emergency and non-emergency calls, relay information, dispatch responders, and maintain detailed logs and reference materials.

The role requires high school graduation with telecommunications training and the ability to make rapid, life-saving decisions under supervision.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with at least one year of experience.
• Preferred specialized training in telecommunications.
• Telecommunication license within first year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Answer emergency services phones, record pertinent information and dispatch units.
• Respond to administrative phones, inquiries, and requests; determine actions and dispatch assistance.
• Assist emergency personnel by researching information and performing related duties.
• Maintain logs, charts, and recordings for investigations and administration.
• Operate and maintain emergency and non-emergency equipment and reference materials.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings to improve skills.
• Perform routine office tasks such as typing, filing, and copying.
