Job summary

Public Safety Dispatch Network is seeking a 911 Call Taker to be the first point of contact for emergency callers. You will question for essential details, confirm locations, and document information for dispatch personnel coordinating response.

Call takers may train for multiple functions in some centers and will work rotating shifts depending on staffing needs. This role supports prompt incident processing and ensures caller privacy and accurate record-keeping.

Qualifications

• Requires listening comprehension, accurate typing, clear verbal communication, and ability to follow procedures.
• Experience in customer service or public safety is helpful but not always required.
• Assessments and minimum scores determined by the hiring agency.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming emergency calls and assigned nonemergency lines.
• Confirm incident location and caller’s callback information.
• Use approved questions to identify the nature and urgency of the situation.
• Enter accurate details into call-processing or dispatch software.
• Forward incident information to the appropriate dispatch function.
• Assist distressed callers with essential questions and instructions.
• Use language-access resources when needed.
• Provide authorized pre-arrival instructions within training and certification.
