Job summary

The City of Sebastian seeks a Communications Dispatcher to receive information from the public, officers, and agencies in both emergency and non-emergency situations. You will monitor radio channels, answer 911 and non-911 lines, input data into CAD and FCIC/NCIC, and relay information to the correct entities.

This entry-level position includes on-the-job training to develop specialized knowledge of the Communications Center, while adhering to department policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; and six (6) months of experience in clerical, data entry, public contact, and/or customer service work.; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Monitors all radio channels for the agency and Fire/EMS channels for calls dispatched by the Sheriff’s office within the city limits.
• Answers emergency and non-emergency calls for service and dispatches officers to calls; relays information to correct individuals.
• Operates CAD and FCIC/NCIC data checks and assists officers and department personnel as needed.
• Acts as switchboard, assists public, maintains records, and supports in-house training.
