Job summary

SC Department of Social Services in South Carolina seeks an Eligibility Specialist I to administer SNAP, ESAP and TANF programs, conduct quality interviews, determine eligibility, and process benefits in the Economic Services Division in Calhoun County. The role emphasizes accuracy, confidentiality, and adherence to federal/state policies.

Responsibilities include maintaining case records, documenting client activities, and making referrals for overpayments.

Qualifications

• A High School Diploma and relevant program experience in clerical, administration, social work, correctional administration, or general business administration.
• An Associate Degree or higher may be substituted for the required program experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides services in accordance with federal and state laws and agency policies, administering SNAP, ESAP and SCCAP, and TANF programs.
• Conducts a minimum of 15 quality interviews per day (phone and/or face-to-face) for SNAP, TANF, ESAP applications and renewals.
• Processes all SNAP, TANF, ESAP, and SCCAP applications and/or recertifications by determining eligibility and authorizing benefits if applicable.
• Maintains case records and files in the agency system for documentation and auditing; records client work participation activities in SCOSA and documents events affecting continued eligibility.
• Identifies and documents overpayments and makes referrals to the Benefit Integrity Unit; prepares supporting documents for Fair Hearings and attends hearings as directed.
• Participates in all required trainings and staff meetings; ensures proper handling of personal identifying information and protection of agency networks and data.
• Performs other related duties; may perform Red Cross or other emergency shelter duties as directed.
