Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Social Services is seeking an Eligibility Specialist I to support SNAP, ESAP, SCCAP, and TANF programs within the Economic Services Division in York County. You will interview clients, determine eligibility, and authorize benefits in compliance with federal and state regulations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and relevant program experience in clerical, administration, social work, correctional administration, or general business.
• An Associate Degree or higher may substitute for the required program experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides services in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations and agency policies, for SNAP, ESAP, SCCAP, and TANF in the Economic Services Division in the county office.
• Conducts a minimum of 7-9 quality interviews per day via phone or face-to-face interviews for SNAP, SCCAP, ESAP applications and SNAP renewals.
• Processes all SNAP, ESAP, and SCCAP applications and/or recertifications by determining eligibility and authorizing benefits if applicable.
• Maintains case records and files in agency designated computer system and documents client work participation activities; enters timely documentation in SCOSA.
• Identifies and documents overpayments and makes at least 3 referrals monthly to the Benefit Integrity Unit; prepares supporting documents for Fair Hearings and attends hearings as directed.
• Participates in all Economic Services required trainings and supervisory/staff meetings as required.
• Ensures personal identifying information (PII) is properly used, accessed, gathered, shared, and disposed; protects agency networks and data.
• Performs other related duties as required.
• Performs Red Cross shelter duty or other emergency shelter duty/services as directed.
