Job summary

Ombudsman Educational Services is seeking a Special Education Teacher to lead instructional programs for elementary students with IEPs in a learning center and classroom settings. You will design personalized learning experiences, use innovative curriculum resources, and integrate educational software to meet diverse needs.

The role emphasizes collaboration, PBIS-based classroom management, and adapting instruction for at-risk students while aligning with state standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education or a closely related field of study.
• Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL professional educator (PEL) credential.
• Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL learning behavior specialist (LBS1) credential.
• Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company approved crisis management training.
• Prior experience working with curriculum development, differentiation and instruction; preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting.
• Prior experience and/or knowledge in special education services and compliance, particularly for students with learning disabilities, emotional disturbance and/or challenging behaviors.
• Prior experience and highly knowledgeable in working with students with individualized education plans (IEP‘s).
• Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals.
• Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.
• Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency and make independent decisions.
• Knowledge of relevant technology including experience with instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basic office equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead instructional process for Elementary School students with IEPs, designing dynamic, personalized learning experiences.
• Deliver targeted instruction using innovative curriculum resources and educational software.
• Create comprehensive lesson plans and schedules aligned to state standards.
• Collaborate in co-teaching environments to meet IEP goals.
• Develop and update IEPs, goals and interventions for students.
• Track student progress and generate reports detailing achievements.
• Implement PBIS strategies and manage classroom expectations.
• Adapt curricular content to diverse learning styles and abilities.
• Plan and organize materials, resources and assessments.
• Maintain a safe, organized classroom and respond to feedback constructively.
