Job summary

RTX in El Segundo, California, is seeking an Electro-Optical Systems Engineer to support the Advanced Products & Solutions Mission Area. You will help design and build electro-optical systems including imagers, LIDAR, and directed energy, translating mission requirements into system specifications.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in Physics/Optical or related STEM, experience with EO/IR imagery, optical design, and hands-on testing. C++/Python and MATLAB skills are valued assets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Optical or related STEM major obtained by start date.
• Experience with electro-optical infrared imagery, focal plane technology, lenses or apertures.
• Experience with fundamental optical principles including geometrical optics, physical optics, imaging systems, aberrations or detectors.
• Hands‑on experience through coursework or lab work with optical testing or alignment.

Responsibilities

• EOS System Architects and System Design Engineers participate in design teams.
• Lead Systems Engineers and Chief Engineers conduct integration and trade studies.
• Requirements Engineers translate mission needs into system requirements and interfaces.
• EO Systems Analysts support verification, validation and testing activities.
