Job summary

Lake Superior Consulting is seeking an Electrical Power Engineer to join our growing team in Ames, IA. You will design, analyze, and upgrade medium- and low-voltage power distribution and generation systems for industrial energy clients from concept through commissioning.

You will lead the electrical scope on moderate to large projects, mentor junior engineers, and ensure designs comply with NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards. Hybrid/remote options offered with travel ~10%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (ABET-accredited).
• ≥3 years of electrical power systems engineering in industrial, utility, or consulting.
• Experience designing/modifying MV (1 kV–38 kV) and LV distribution.
• Hands-on modeling with SKM ETAP EasyPower or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards for industrial power systems.
• Ability to read one-line diagrams and vendor drawings; strong written communication.
• Willingness to travel ~10%.

Responsibilities

• Power system studies and modeling from field data and drawings.
• Develop protective relay settings and coordination for multiple assets.
• Design and review electrical diagrams, schematics, and interconnects.
• Lead electrical scope on projects and mentor staff.
• Coordinate with mechanical, civil, controls, and process teams; interface with clients.
