Job summary

Lake Superior Consulting seeks an Electrical Power Engineer to design, analyze, and upgrade medium- and low-voltage power distribution and generation systems for industrial clients. You will lead the electrical scope on projects from concept through commissioning in a hybrid or remote setting.

The role emphasizes model development, protection coordination, grounding design, and field support. Travel to sites is expected, with opportunity to mentor junior staff and interface with clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Minimum of 3 years of electrical power systems engineering experience in an industrial, utility, or consulting environment.
• Demonstrated experience designing or modifying medium-voltage (1 kV to 38 kV) and low-voltage power distribution systems.
• Hands-on modeling and study experience in SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards for industrial power systems.
• Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams and schematics.
• Strong technical writing, with experience in study reports and specifications.
• Willingness to travel to project sites (approx. 10%).

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain power system models from field data and studies (load flow, short-circuit, coordination).
• Develop protective relay settings and coordination for feeders, transformers, motors, generators, and buses.
• Design and review grounding systems per IEEE 80/81 and related standards.
• Size and rate equipment and conductors, verify duty and withstand.
• Review and quality-check studies and vendor submittals.
• Lead electrical scope on projects and coordinate with other disciplines.
